GlibC_2.3 not found message when .configure

Hi

I download GLIBC2.3 and tried to install it - however the linker - ld - now complains when ever I try and .configure a program. I get the following message

ld: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3' not found (required by ld)

Anyone know how to get libc.so.6 to use my previous version of GLIBC (2.2.4)

Thanks
Shelton.
