glibc upgrade

I just tried to install a vector graphics package. It failed at the end because it said I needed to upgrade to GLIBC_2.3.4. Is this difficult to do? Can anyone direct me to a tutorial on how to do it? Could I break my system trying this? I am using Mandrake 10.

Thanks for the links. To be honest I get the feeling that attempting this would be like running through a mine field. I think I will install a new OS on a new partition or disk, it sounds a lot easier.
