gimp-print compile error / foomatic

Hello,

I'm trying to compile gimp-print, but I get the following error:

creating printers
rm -r foomatic-db
rm: cannot lstat `foomatic-db': No such file or directory
make[3]: [foomatic-stamp] Error 1 (ignored)
./foomatic-generator -m ./foomatic-printermap -t ./foomatic-templates -d noijs -f 3 -o

Loading options from ./stp_limits...done.

Loading printer ID translation table from ./oldprinterids...done.
Generating data for "PrintoutMode" option...done.
No foomatic printer IDs for gimp-print printer escp2-pm4000px.
No foomatic printer IDs for gimp-print printer escp2-pmd750.
No foomatic printer IDs for gimp-print printer pcl-850.
No foomatic printer IDs for gimp-print printer escp2-pm740c.
No foomatic printer IDs for gimp-print printer escp2-cx8400.

I installed the foomatic-db in /usr, but don't know if I have to run any programs to create the "foomatic printer IDs" or does gimp-print just not find the db?! But the ./configure --prefix=/usr runs without any errors... any sugestions?!

did you find a solution?

I'm having the same problem. I posted a question to the gimp-print forum on sourceforge, but so far haven't heard a solution.

I'm wondering if you solved this and if so how.

Thanks--Michael

Hi!

I solved the Problem and ow my printer works fine. I suggest that it's a Perl-Problem: I had to correct the relevant regular expression in "./foomatic-generator" and also did some changes in "./foomatic-printermap" and it compiled fine... Unfortunately I can't remember what it was exactly, but I could post the sections of the files here when I'm at home...

Thanks. I don't know perl so if you can provide your changes I'd appreciate it.

Hi,

here how I got it to work:

I used gimp-print 4.2.7-pre1 and changed gimp-print-4.2.7-pre1/src/foomatic/foomatic-generator at line 209 where it says:

if (m!^\#\s*gptofoo\s+([^\s]+)\s+([^\s]+)!) {

into

if (m!^\#\s*gptofoo\s+(.*)\t(.*)$!) {

(in other version perhaps another line...)

and changed in src/foomatic/foomatic-printermap the space between column 2 and 3 into a tabulator. It was much work and if you don't need an up-to-date version you can download mine here: http://www.unforgotten.de/div/foomatic-printermap

Hope it works for you too...

It didn't work for me, unfortunately. I got the same results as before.

The problem has been picked up by the gimp-print folks on SourceForge, so hopefully a solution is forthcoming.

Thanks for your help all the same.
