GIMP: how do I change text's color after entering it?

In GIMP, I made some text with the text tool, and later decided to change the color. I can't figure out how.

Make sure the layer the text is on is selected and activate the Text Tool. GIMP normally puts each text element on a separate layer, so the relevant text should be selected as well then. Change the text colour in the Palette to the colour you need.

Hope that helps.

If the text is not selected for some reason, select it left-clicking on it. If you have a lot of overlapping elements on the same layer it might take a couple of tries to select the right text. A window containing the text should pop up and in the Palette the text colour for the text tool should change to that of the selected text. Then change the text colour in the Palette to the colour you need. You can close the pop-up window with the selected text in it before or after this.

All this assumes you haven't flattened the image. If you have done that, then using the Fuzzy Select Tool (the wand) and the Bucket Fill is your best bet.

EDIT Corrected and clarified.

If you have the text selected, you can fill with FG or BG color. Edit -> Fill with ??. Foreground or Background, those two color boxes in the middle of that main icon / docking / part. If the color is unique, you can sometimes get away with select by color and the same. Alternatively if you still have the text tool up, you can change the color there and cut and paste the existing text to change the color. ^X ^V. Double clicking the text layer should bring that thing back up iirc.

Not really intuitive, but there are ways.
