Gimp error: can't find libfontconfig.1

Hi,
I've just compiled GIMP from source, and now I'm trying to start it. The problem is, it comes up with the error:

gimp: error while loading shared libraries: libfontconfig.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

libfontconfig.1 is in /usr/X11R6/lib [it's actually a symlink to /usr/X11R6/libfontconfig.1.0.4], and /usr/X11R6/lib is in /etc/ld.so.conf (and I've done an ldconfig as well). Can anyone help me on this error message?

Thanks in advance
