Gimp and jpeg plugin? Can't find it
Hi I can't open any jpeg's in Gimp or anything else. I have Dream Linux. I have searched and searched in Synaptic plus googling and can't find a name for the plugin. Does anyone know what it is called so I can install it? Thanks!!!

GIMP will open jpegs (and most other photo formats) out of the box---no plugin required.
How are you attempting to open, and what exactly happens?
Other programs will also open jpegs---eg Firefox (and I assume most other browsers)

Gimp is not opening any downloaded jpg's. Same with Iceweasal. Anyway the errors with all three apps are as below.

New one on me.......
Has the system always had this problem? If so, perhaps they left out a crucial library as suggested above.
You could also try ImageMagick. to see if it is installed, open a terminal and enter "convert". If you get "command not found", then use you package manager to install ImageMagick.
Once installed, you can display an image using "display filename"

Well I have only noticed it recently. I have only had DL installed a few short weeks. Anyway libjpeg62 is in stalled according to synaptic.
Imagemagick is installed already but I am not clear about it's purpose or how to use it. I am not very good with the manuals in the terminal yet. Or how to use apps using the terminal?

Imagemagick is a very powerful suite of command-line image tools---you can get an idea at their website. The only reason I mentioned it in this context was the notion that there could be some libraries in common. To try it, open a terminal and enter "man convert" or "man display". To display an image: "display filename" (where filename is the full pathname, unless you are in its directory).
As for the original question, one thing to try is to remove and re-install GIMP.
Some Linux users don't like to admit this, but sometimes you simply have to re-install the system.....

Are you sure that files are downloaded as jpegs? Check them with "file" command.

Thanks i will check out the howto's later on imagemagic. Thanks but i won't be reinstalling DL because i have very llittle internet usage and i keep killing it. ONly have 2 gig per month. That is australia for you. Gimp is not so bad to reinstall though but would that break DL as it comes with the initial install? I have reninstalled so many linux distros and go carzy sometimes because then my internet speeds are stepped down to dialup.
Yep they are jpg's or jpeg's. i have my system set to show the full file name.
