Gimp
Hello,
I use Linux from CD-ROM and have some programs in my home dir install t. Can I also run Gimp if the Linux OS is read only? Thanks Stephan |
What bootable distro are you running? I believe some of the newer ones using unionfs allow you to install software to ram so that it can be run. However, you would notice a large performance gain if you were running Linux from the hard drive. Is there a reason preventing you from doing this? GIMP will also run on windows if you need it to see http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/ .

I use the bootable distro Knoppix and have a home dir at an external hard drive. I have not much space at my Notebook and use Knoppix for the Internet. I have Gimp on Windows but I don t want boot the computer.

If you're not going to use windows then whats the point of keeping it on there? The latest version of KNOPPIX, 3.9, has gimp 2.2.7. You can download it here ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.uni...5-05-27-EN.iso

Thanks, I try to become the KNOPPIX 3.9 CD-ROM. I hope that I can use my old home dir with the new KNOPPIX. I have other programs like Adobe, Apache, Firefox, Thuderbird, Netscape install t at the external device.
