gift /apollon problem

hello folks, after trying to install gift for the last two days i finally have been able to get the right libraries. but when i run giFT it gives me this

*** ERROR: Your setup is incomplete ***

You will need to run gift-setup and be sure that you read absolutely
every configuration option (no, really). Some default configuration
values are considered illegal, and will raise this error message. If you
suspect that you have configured giFT properly, consult the conf files in
/home/mcneil/.giFT/ for diagnostic purposes.

If you are still having problems you should consult the QUICKSTART guide
available from the standard giFT distribution.

-----

so i went through gift-setup, and the tools, which is just the setup basically. Everything looked fine to me.

so when i open apollon i get this:

Connection error
An unhandled error was returned when trying to open a connection with the giFT daemon, which is responsible for connecting to the various networks. The reported error was:
Operation not permitted (1)

To me when i go through the setup it looks fine, i changed a few of the defaults, but it was pretty striaghtforward. I am am so close to getting it working it is driving me. If someone could help it would be mint.

/Jason

ok , no i am getting a more specific error, after playing with it for a few more hours.

*** GIFT-FATAL: couldn't load protocol in file /usr/lib/giFT/libnone.la: file not found
*** Often times more information can be found in the log file or with the -v command line switch.

i cannot seem to find anything about the libnone.la file which it needs. Anyone ever run into this problem before??? i am useing mandrake 9.2
