Ghost for Linux Networking

Ok, im trying to make a backup image of my webservers. I have a copy of Ghost for Linux. I want to do a image to a ftp server. Both the ftp server and the webserver are on the same subnet with no dhcp server. Whenever i load g4l off the bootable cd, i setup all the information it asked, but how do i add a default gateway? Im new with linux but i heard something about trying to use the route add command. How can i get this machine to network? As of right now i cannot ping the ftp server either. Any help is appreciated.

i found the solution for anyone who wants to know. It wasnt taking my gateway and bradcast address so i used ifconfig. Now i have another problem. When i try to do the backup, the screen does a quick flash, then returns to the previous screen.
