gFTP problem - Too many hosts

I tried to use gFTP to upload photos to my website. I used to use Filezilla under WinXP with no problems, but with gFTP nothing seems to happen and I get an error message of "Too many hosts". I cannot understand this - there is no network connected. On Ubuntu 9.10 I could use Filezilla, but got the same problem. What is it about Linux FTP applications?
