gFTP hanging or r-e-a-l slow

Has anybody encountered performance problems with gFTP?
I bring up the app, and as soon as I've tried to do anything - enter a URL, click a file tab, whatever - it stops responding, or at least give huge delays. Result - I have to kill the application.

Is this some kind of memory issue?
I can run other apps in other workspaces quite happily at the same time, so I'm guessing not, but hey... I'm only guessing.

Perpetually

Try running it from a shell and see if you get any errors.

yes, it's slow when you are transfering a lot of files, I use it to update my website and I think it's great, but for large amounts of data, try splitting it up a bit.

Nah... I'm talking about even clicking a file/edit/view etc. menu tab or trying to connect to a URL. I can't do a practical thing with it.

Just looking for shared experiences or bright ideas really... or good alternative apps.
