is there a man page for the command you use for this program? check it out, most will have a -v option to show the version. if not im sure it would be in a file somewhere where the program is installed. sorry ive never used it.

The following works on my system (Oracle 10g):
Code:
# su - oracle -c 'ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/sqlplus -V' | grep Release
SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
