Getting started with Firebird

I have Firebird running as a service under RH 8.0. Using isql, I can't get it to connect with a database. I was familiar with the graphical isql under Windows but don't see an equivalent here. If I enter isql and any combination of a user name and database name I get a "can't connect" message. The Interbase tutorial isn't much help because it assumes the Windows graphical isql. Is there a reference resource for getting Firebird connected under Linux?

You have your browser running as a service? SILLY! :D

See? This is why I think Mozilla screwed up. That's what I thought when I saw the thread title. Then read the post and "Oh, the original Firebird app".

FYI, people tend to seek out zero-reply threads so it's best to make first replies count, willsta. :)

I don't have any help, but I'm the second reply. :p Seriously - sorry about that but good luck, jdtiede.

Firebird is also the name of an optimized relational database (which i have no experience of.. sorry). This was called Firebird long before Phoenix's name was changed and are (afaik) considering legal action about the name clash.
