Getting MPlayer to display/indicate overall video length

I basically read the entire man page for mplayer, and I've had absolutely no luck in finding out how to get Mplayer to show me just how much time is remaining in the video I'm watching. Or, not just that, but even when the video ends. The only thing I seem to have the ability to do is scan forward, quickly glance at the "progress bar" and scan back, trying to find my original place. This simply does not seem all that efficient and there should be a better way...

Please tell me how.

Thanks.

Thanks, but "O" results in nothing more than an icon in the top-left corner indicating the current mode. Typically this is just the ">" (play arrow). When scanning forward this changes to ">>" and "<<" for back scanning.

"O" does not indicate the video information I desire, or any video information for that matter.

I tried both 'o' and 'O' ("o" + shift).

Very strange. When I press "o", the first press shows time/progress, a second press shows time/progress - time/remaining, a third press hides everything. The second joypad button does the very same. I dunno if it has anything to do, but I've compiled mplayer from source. Did you compile from source too? Or was it RPM install? Which version are you running?.

Good luck mate!

Can you show me your input.conf or config? I think you have "o" binded to something when I don't.

I've got it working. Wasn't easy to figure out either, but, either way its working now. Here's what I needed to do:

Code:
# Mplayer needs a font to draw out the subtitle text, I picked arial
ls -l /usr/share/fonts/msfonts/arial.ttf ~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf

# By default, osdlevel is 1 which doesnt show progress time/remaining/total
# 3 enables all possible, put this in ~/.mplayer/config
mplayer -osdlevel 3 (file)
Hope this saves someone else the trouble I went through. Oh and yeah, you need to press "o" for it to display (after doing the above, of course).

Strange situation for me:
1st o push = time (with paly icon)
2nd o push = time/total (with play icon)
3rd o push = hide all
I don't get the remaining at all, even if i put -osdlevel 3

It's been always like that, no matter if it's rpm o tarball....

Is there something wrong??
