Getting Internet to work on Gentoo 2007.0 using VMWare player

I recently installed VMWare player on my PC because I wanted an easy way to use Linux without the side effect of messing up the install for a dual boot.
So I looked online for an OS to run on the player and found a link to download Gentoo 2007.0 and I tried it. After downloading the HUGE file I was able to get it to run. It works great and even has a new version of QT Designer that was included.
The only problem I have with it is that I am unable to access the internet. We have a cable modem attached to the computer that works with Windows. I know there must be some setting that would allow me to use that connection whether it be through lo or something like that.
I tried ifconfig to see if I had an eth0 or anything that would show an IP address. I also tried the DOS command ipconfig but no luck either.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You should look at the Gentoo Handbook concerning configuring your Ethernet interface.

If you do not have an eth0 interface it may also be that the NIC card driver has not been loaded.

Known Problems

I think there are known problems with trying to install Gentoo to a VM. i had a properly configured eth1/0 interface using "intel" chip set and while other bootcds were able to detect it fine, Gentoo was not.
