Getting in GUI instead of command shell using Mandy 9.2
Hi,
Yesterday I've reinstalled my Mandrake 9.2 editition on one of my machines, and now I was trying to log in to the OS. But after choosing in which mode I want to boot Linux, I get into the command shell (bash), where I have to insert my password and username. That's no problem to me, but I'd like to use the graphical environment (like KDE or Gnome)..... How can I get back into KDE? I've already tried rebooting twice. Thank you in advance, Boudewijn Ector PS: feel free to mail me at boudewijn@boudewijnector.com (Dutch or English please!). |
'startx' will run X. If the default runlevel is not 5 (for graphics), you should change it to that in your /etc/inittab. This will make X start automatically.

Mounting other file system : mount for device dev/sda2 [FAILED]
When linux is still in the booting process, I saw some lines which have the test failed saying the above line. Could this be my problem? Thank you. I have tried changing the /etc/inittab from id:3 to id:5. After reboot, It still gives me the login screen. What else should I do? :( |

HI, the problem that I put above is really my own problem. My linux installation is still not working after all the kdm, startx and etc/initttab editing that I am suggested to do. So, I posted the line above (thinking that might help finding my problem). What should I do? My linux is still in the level 3 state. and I can't get the GUI to run
