Getting gtkam to work in gentoo linux
 

I am using gentoo linux. I have a usb canon s100 camera, and have gotten gtkam to work easily using other distros.

I have gtkam and gphoto2 installed, but gtkam can not detect my camera this time. When I enable debug from the help menu, here is the line that I think is the problem:

There is also a similar line in the debug output for all of the other camera drivers. What can I do to fix this? Like I said, I have gotten it to work on other distros, so it should just be a matter of getting gtkam to work properly with gphoto2.

Ok, my question seems to have been ignored by other people on this board, but I'll answer my own question since I've figured it out.

There is an option when you're configuring the kernel that's under the USB options. It is the option that creates the devices in /proc/bus/usb (edit: It's the Preliminary USB filesystem option), and this needs to be enabled, othewise gphoto2 and thus gtkam does not work.

Would you share the resolution? of this problem?

You need to make sure the kernel is compiled with the Preliminary USB filesystem option. If this is compiled in you should be able to access the camera with root, and with some permission changes with a normal user.

Down load one disconect usb reconect usb and repeat.
 

Thanks, now is "working" I can dwnload one picture at a time. The gphoto2 application is telling me that the data from the camera is corrupted. But if I disconect the usb and then reconect, then I can download the next one. I am using a Jam Cam and with the graphics viewers from gnome the pictures look much better than the original application for the camera (MS Windows).
