Getting GRUB to Load Last Booted

Is there a setting with grub so that I can get it to remember the last option I chose, and then have that as the default option in the boot menu? EG If I just booted windows, then the default on my next boot is also windows. Or for a particular kernel etc.

do it manually

in your grub file

insert lines before the first title
remember count starts from zero
timeout 5
default 0
fallback 2

title linux1 etc
title linux 2
title xp
means that the first attempt is linux 1 and if that fails go to xp unless you press a key to stop the countdown of 5 seconds
