Getting GRUB To Boot a CD

I just returned home after a two year stint abroad and discovered an old laptop in my house. I dusted it off, turned it on and discovered it had red hat 8 on it. I thought that I might as well put this laptop to some use, but I have no intention of using that OS. I think I'll put Ubuntu on it. However, before that happens, I've run into a problem.

The laptop in question is a Toshiba Satellite 4030 CDS. When I boot it up, there's a Toshiba splash screen, then it goes straight through to grub. There seems to be absolutely no option to get into the BIOS so I can change the boot order to boot from CD before HDD. So until I get over that hurdle I'm totally stuck with this old OS.

Therefore, my problem can be solved in either one of two ways. I've tried looking both up but with not much success. Either someone lets me know the magical way to get into the BIOS, or it occured to me that it should be possible to make GRUB boot from a CD rather than Red Hat on the HDD. Having zero experience with GRUB I have no idea how to do that. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I guess an old laptop is a better find after two years than a gallon of milk. Try holding down the Escape key when you're powering up. I think that will either take you directly to the BIOS or ask you to press F1 to get to the BIOS.

Here are the GRUB manual instructions for making a GRUB bootable CD.
