getting celestia to work with gtk

I was trying to install celestia, and it works with the glut interface. That interface has no menus, so I'm trying to get it to work with gtk.
The first time I tried, I did ./configure --with-gkt and it worked fine until towards the end when its said this:

checking for gtk+-2.0 gtkglext-1.0... Package gtkglext-1.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtkglext-1.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'gtkglext-1.0' found

configure: error: Library requirements (gtk+-2.0 gtkglext-1.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.

After that I downloaded gtkglext-1.0.6 and installed it from the source. That still gave me the error message, so I got version 1.0.0. That didn't work either, I still get that error message.

I need help.
