Getting audio cd's to work in alsaplayer/xmms, slack 9

Hello all. I haven't posted in a long time...due mainly to everyone in the archives who ask the same questions as me .

I am having a bit of trouble getting audio cd's to play. In XMMS or alsaplayer, I try opening up /mnt/cdrom, /dev/hdc, and /dev/cdrom, none of which play. However, regular data cd's will mount. Also, back when I was using Redhat 7.3, audio cd's would play beautifully in XMMS, so I am sure there's just something I need to configure.

If this helps, here's my /etc/fstab listing for it, I'm not sure if it's to blame or not because I configured it so long ago:

/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro,user 0 0

Thanks a lot!

This is weird. I can mount data cd's, and play mp3's as non-root, but can only play audio cd's as root :-/. So I guess it's a perms problem, but I have no idea what device it could be on, if I can do all that as non-root...weird...
