Question Getting apt-get to work?

So ;
I installed the apt-get rpm on my SuSE 8.0 system , but with every attempt to use it , I get the following error:
Reading Package Lists... Done
Collecting File Provides... Error!
E: could not open RPM package list file /var/state/apt/lists/ftp.gwdg.de_pub_linux_suse_apt_SuSE_8.0-i386_base_pkglist.packman-i386:
E: Problem opening /var/state/apt/lists/ftp.gwdg.de_pub_linux_suse_apt_SuSE_8.0-i386_base_pkglist.packman-i386
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
Did I forget something during the installation?
How can I resolve this?

Ok , I got it to work.
Now the only problem , that remains is :
I can install/upgrade from the repository-sites allright , but....
How do I use it to install packages that aren't on them but I dowloaded from other sites?
Like : The latest GAIM-rpm or a newer version of mozilla.

So you downloaded an rpm 'manually' without using apt-get. You can install it by doing:

rpm -ivh <package name>
