getting adsl to work

Hi all
only just recently installed mandrake 9.1 on a dual boot machine with windows xp pro, and have been unable to get my adsl connection going, i have read every forum there is on the matter and they all assume your a linux expert, i need to load drivers for my speedtouch alcatel adsl modem which i already have downloaded, but have no idea how to load them ? ive followed the instructions to the letter but too no avail.

my adsl modem has only one port and connects to my pc via the usb cable, my pc connects to a 8 port switch, which shares the connection with one other pc, i cannot therefore use a network cable to connect the modem to the computer as suggested.

im new to linux so please dont assume i know anything

thanks

Assuming you know nothing I think you should really get a home router/firewall for 50$. It will secure your home network and make your linux experience easier. Once you have a working setup and got some linux skills, you can always get back to trying adsl again.

But eh... please explain what is the format of your drivers... .tar.gz or .rpms?
