get files from an AIT tape to HD

Friends,

i have a backup that was done on windows with a app called media mover.
I am wondering if there is a way that I can 'move' the content of this AIT tape to a HD . the files are not tar - in fact i do not know what they are.

likely it was NTFS file sys - win 2K , it id from 8 years ago...
( yeah nice ... they bring it to me to reclaim )

but i would like to 'get it' maybe cpio or something?

any thoughts?

You can always dd it into an image on your hard drive. However, without knowing how the data is organized on the tape (headers etc...) this may not help you much. Also if the data was software compressed or encrypted before going to the tape it may not help much. The dd file at least would let you do something like strings or od to try to see what is in it.

Just a friendly FYI to add to jlightner's advice~

While I'm not personally familiar with Media Mover, I am familiar with Windows-based software from 8 years ago. Seemed everyone was coming up with all sorts of strange, non-standard file formats so you would need to use their software to reuse/reclaim the files. cip: By default, Picture It 2000 stored photos in a .mix file.

Good luck!
