German font problem

I'm using Redhat 9.0 on my Inspiron 8200 laptop. My desktop is in english with a danish keyboard. I work at a german university. Everytime I log myself to an external machine through ssh or vpn. I won't show things like german letters like "umlauts" and german ss=ß. Why is that and how can I fix it?

Kind Regards

André Fettouhi
