Gentoo Update Issues
I recently did a system-wide update for Gentoo using Kuroo, meaning I don't know the command used. After installing all night, everything appeared to be finished, and I rebooted. Now I'm getting an error when I try to install kig, and when I try to install kdebluetooth,(see errors at very end of post) and when I su and type in my password, I get this:
configuration error - unknown item 'FAILLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator) configuration error - unknown item 'LASTLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator) configuration error - unknown item 'MOTD_FILE' (notify administrator) configuration error - unknown item 'FTMP_FILE' (notify administrator) configuration error - unknown item 'ENV_ROOTPATH' (notify administrator) configuration error - unknown item 'PASS_MIN_LEN' (notify administrator) configuration error - unknown item 'CHFN_AUTH' (notify administrator) A lot more things work than before, but I'm not sure what's going on. Please help. Thanks (Keep scrolling down for Kig and Kdebluetooth errors), -Peter Kig Error: libtool: link: `/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.4/libstdc++.la' is not a valid libtool archive make[3]: *** [libkigparttemp.la] Error 1 make[3]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs.... libtool: link: cannot find the library `/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.4/libstdc++.la' make[3]: *** [kig] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kig-3.5.2/work/kig-3.5.2/kig/kig' make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kig-3.5.2/work/kig-3.5.2/kig' make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kig-3.5.2/work/kig-3.5.2' make: *** [all] Error 2 Kdebluetooth: libtool: link: cannot find the library `/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.4/libstdc++.la' make[5]: *** [kbluetoothd] Error 1 make[5]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdebluetooth-1.0_beta1-r2/work/kdebluetooth-1.0_beta1/kdebluetooth/kbluetoothd/kbluetoothd' make[4]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[4]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdebluetooth-1.0_beta1-r2/work/kdebluetooth-1.0_beta1/kdebluetooth/kbluetoothd/kbluetoothd' make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdebluetooth-1.0_beta1-r2/work/kdebluetooth-1.0_beta1/kdebluetooth/kbluetoothd' make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdebluetooth-1.0_beta1-r2/work/kdebluetooth-1.0_beta1/kdebluetooth' make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdebluetooth-1.0_beta1-r2/work/kdebluetooth-1.0_beta1' make: *** [all] Error 2 |
I haven't sync'd in a while, I don't use KDE, and I wouldn't be caught dead using a GUI for portage, so take the following for what it's worth.
That looks suspiciously like a gcc mismatch. You running ~arch by any chance, and maybe picked up gcc 4.1 ???. I saw a note in the latest weekly newsletter re KDE and gcc mixing. Have a look at the gentoo bugzilla maybe. |
No, I'm using amd64. It's confusing.
Thanks, -Peter |
I had this probelm when I updated some packages related to permissions (I think pam). You have to run etc-update and replace the old login.defs file with the new one.

I merged all the config files, probably a bad idea, but that's what I did.
Thanks, -Peter |
