I've downloaded a livecd to do a test install. I find that when I boot it I come up with a german language implementation of the env.

Actually, it's all in german, it's kde with an html page displayed also written in german.

I don't speak a lick of german, not a word, so I don't know how they expect me to get this installed.

Also, once it is booted up there's no installer and from what I can tell at the boot screen, there's no way to tell it english nor that I want it to install from the livecd to a hdd.

Any ideas?

It is beyond me to understand how they could have done what they did with this CD.

Where did you take this cd from? I installed gentoo on one of my box just 2 weeks ago and it was all perfectly english, trust me, I don't speak german at all.

It is strange, you are talking about KDE... gentoo livecd doesn't have KDE installed, they are just base system from where to start to install "stages" or complete install cd... At my opinion, what you are using isn't a gentoo live cd at all... where did you get this from?
