General Questions

I just loaded Fedora Core 2 after giving up on another distribution. I have previously run a web, email and chat server for 5 years or more.

I used Dmail instead of Sendmail but decided to do things a little different this time. I'd like to just post my questions or issues and if I could get answers or comments on them I'd appreciate it greatly.

When I loaded the OS, I checked for everything to be installed. I just don't think it was. Sendmail loads on boot, but there was no pop3s or imap. So when I updated, the two were installed and load on boot. The problem with that is that although I have accounts created for pop3 in my email client and I have accounts on the server, it doesn't accept my pwd. Why wouldn't it?

Is there a frontend to administer Sendmail?

Is something besides Sendmail required for it to be functional?

*NOTE: I've not changed any config files. Shouldn't it work from a fresh install?

Will Spam Assassin work with something other than Dmail?

I installed Proftp server on there too. I can't get it to list the contents of a directory after it accepts my password. It times out. I shut it down and used a different one with the same results. Why is it timing out with two different programs?

Ssh works fine.

I did the 300+ upgrades after I did the install. Now I can't get into user admin and don't know how to add accounts otherwise.

Isn't Perl something that should be installed with the normal, complete install of Fedora Core 2? If I do a ps ax I don't see it like I did with the other.

I've read a bit of docs on Sendmail, just can't find the answers I am looking for.

Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Thanks,
Greg
