Gedit is confused

On several distros, after a while, gedit, when saving a file, will not allow it and says because it is a read-only partition. This is not true, I have checked, been able to download files to said partition, and edit files on said partition with other programs such as Libreoffice. So, why is gedit confused, and is there a way to reset gedit to it's default settings?

It appears you do not have permission to write to that partition. You can probably select the 'Save As' option to save the file elsewhere (such as your HOME partition) or change how the partition is mounted so that you have read/write access to it.

You also may be able to open gedit as root with "gksu gedit" but that would save any file with 'root' as the owner. I'm not sure it would work in this case regardless.

Have you tried with another text editor (I am talking about editor, not the office product)?
What is the filesystem of partition?

Other text editors such as kate and kwrite work fine, and I only have a swap position and a / partition, and I can download files to said / partition, and I have already tried to remount the partition as read/write, and it succeeds, but gedit still won't work properly.
