Hello everyone, i've got a problem with gdm not wanting to start up.
I'm running slax and I've been in the habit of making my own modules from source.
I've just compiled the latest stable source version of gdm (2.16.1) without any problems. But when I start up slax, log in, type "gdm", I see A gray screen appear (sign that X is up and working), I see my mouse cursor with the little spinner indicating that the computer is working for a few seconds, then everything closes down and I find myself back in my tty terminal. No error messages, and ps -A shows me that gdm is still running, but X isn't. I went and had a look at /var/log/syslog and found this at the end :
Code:
Feb 12 10:21:50 (none) gdm[8569]: gdm_config_parse: Authdir /var/gdm does not exist. Aborting.
Feb 12 10:22:10 (none) gdm[8767]: gdm_slave_greeter: Cannot start greeter trying default: /usr/libexec/gdmlogin
Feb 12 10:22:11 (none) gdm[8767]: failsafe dialog failed (inhibitions: 0 0)
Feb 12 10:22:11 (none) gdm[8767]: failsafe dialog failed (inhibitions: 0 1)
Feb 12 10:22:11 (none) gdm[8767]: failsafe dialog failed (inhibitions: 1 1)
Feb 12 10:22:11 (none) gdm[8767]: gdm_slave_greeter: Error starting greeter on display :0
if I do a gdm-restart it still gives me the same thing.
Anyone have an idea what's happening and what to do to fix it ?
