Unhappy gcc 4.0.2 make error on SuSE 10.0

Hi, I have SuSE 10.0 and I need to downgrade gcc from 4.1.1 to 4.0.2 (to compile ndiswrapper). I have downloaded the sources and run configure from gcc-4.0.2/gcc and that runs fine, but when I make it says
Code:
make: *** No rule to make target `../build-i686-pc-linux-gnu/libiberty/libiberty.a', needed by `build/genmodes'. Stop.
It is quite important that I get this done as I am stuck without internet because ndiswrapper reports an invalid module format when I modprobe ndiswrapper.

Can anyone help with this please?

Thankss

Looks like you haven't run ./configure yet

I've run the configure in the gcc-4.0.2 directory and the one in gcc-4.0.2/gcc
the configure in gcc-4.0.2 says something about not supporting building from the source directory in this release.

Still not working.

I finally worked out that I had to make a directory (gcc-4.0.2/../directory) and run ../gcc-4.0.2/configure from there and then make but I then get another error (can't remember what, will check and then reply).

Please can somebody reply to this thread?!!!

Sorted it - problem was I was building in a directory off my home directory, as soon as I switched it to /tmp everything worked great.
