Hi again. I was able to compile successfully garnome (at last). Now, to execute garnome, I can't find .xinitrc or .xsession. Any suggestions? I tried to run my garnome-session manually by ./garnome-session, and this returned an answer like this "(gnome-session:3008)"Gtk-WARNING **:cannot opern display:"
Any suggestions?
Also, can someone double check my garnome-session script? Thanks.
#!/bin/sh
GARNOME=$HOME/garnome
PATH=$GARNOME/bin:$PATH
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$GARNOME/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
PYTHONPATH=$GARNOME/lib/python2.2/site-packages
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=$GARNOME/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/lib/pkgconfig
GDK_USE_XFT=1
export PATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH PYTHONPATH PKG_CONFIG_PATH GDK_USE_XFT
exec $GARNOME/bin/gnome-session
I was able to find .xinitrc the first time, and I placed the following lines:
#!/bin/sh
exec garnome-session
But it returned an error that line 2 can't be found, when it is clearly in /root. When I removed the lines from .xinitrc and saved, .xinitrc file can no longer be found.
Thanks, can't wait to get gnome 2.4 going

I think the script should work provided X is up and ready to go otherwise, but timing in that could be an issue perhaps. You should look into the gdm / xdm X startup chain RedHat has in /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions and look at adding your new garnome session to system.

I finally got it to work. I changed the second line from my .xinitrc to exec /root/garnome-session instead of exec garnome-session. Maybe my garnome-session isn't included in path.
I also want to ask about putting the same command to xsession. Is this file the one I see under /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession?
I can see lots of lines inside it. What I did was backed it up and deleted all the lines and inserted the line exec /root/garnome-session. It went inside to the gdm, and there, upon login, it says that my last session was less than 10 seconds. It asked my to try failsafe and others, all came out with the same result. But when I did a startx, no problem whatsoever. Are the lines in the orignal xsession needed? If so, where do I insert this new line?

If you're only using gdm for login place a script at /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions that is similar to the GNOME default script there, then edit /etc/X11/xdm/XSessions simplay adding the line that will be correct for garnome where you see a block with gnome, kde, failsafe etc.
copy the 3 lines with gnome, change gnome to get garnome going with /root/bin/gnome-session.
