Gaming Chess xboard intranet between two PCs ?

Good evening,
I would like to test XBOARD and to play a game between two PCs (IP). Is it possible without a server, eg. FICS, in the intranet?
thank you

I don't know about xboard, but you can try this: playing chess over a lan gives no guarantee your opponent isn't playing your moves against a chess engine in a different window.
