games in fedora core 3

well to put it simply i havnt been able to get a single game to work in linux
the only ones ive tried are americas army, wofenstein enemy territory, and unreal 2004. im wondering if maybe it has anything to do with the fact that i installed new drivers for my 9800 pro. or maybe if there is something i am completely missing when it comes to installing and running games

Well i've used some of these and I don't remember having any problems installing them. Have you checked that you have installed the ati drivers properly ? I think the command to check what drivers you are using is somthing like " fglrxinfo" make sure it says ati drivers not mesa.

Failing that please run some of the games from the command line and post some error messages so we have somthing to go off.

Good Luck

it does say mesa,
in that case im not sure what i did wrong when installing the ati drivers

edit: i tried reinstalling the drivers and still nothing. what is the proper method to install the drivers? do i need to uninstall the other mesa drivers or something?

also when i run check.sh from atis website it says it cant find xorg6.8 which is installed, so now im completely lost

never mind
its a wonder what can happen when you actually read all the instructions
aka i scrolled further down the page and figured out that i needed to configure the driver myself. i guess ive been using windows too long

Simon_6162 06-12-2005 04:11 PM

Cool, does that mean you can now get the games to run ?

fbs2003 06-12-2005 04:16 PM

yes, and tux racer even runs well now, before it ran at about 3fps now its nice and smooth

What did you do?

fbs2003 06-12-2005 05:26 PM

"normally"(aka winxp) you run the installation and thats it
with the linux drivers after you install them you have to run the configuration file before theyll work

When you figure something out, since you posted the question here, you really should tell everyone what you did to resolve the issue. Basics of respect for others' time.
