Games are running slow with winex
 

I have managed to get Windows games running on Linux, but the problem is they are running really slowly. I changed my system to boot to text multiuser environment, hoping that having x not run would speed things up.
It tells me X11 can't load. Does this meen that winex needs a GUI to run. Any tips on how I can speed things up?

As far as I understand, of course you need X running to run apps from WInex.

As far as speeding wine up, well I really can't help you much there since of never really used the software, but maybe updating the graphics driver will help. Sorry.

I don't have much experience with winex, but one thing you should definately check is if 3d acceleration is working.

Can you run other 3d apps natively in linux, and are they fast?

I have noticed that some games that are installed with mandrake run slowly. Considering their graphics. When I was using windows quake 3 was a breeze, but with winex it generates a new screen every 4 secs. I am using a 366Mhz processor. How do I check if I am using 3D?

the thing is if u have ati then the 3.7.0 driver wont work with winex in 3d so either install an older one or the new one

I installed the latest Winex version earlier and still have the same problem. I do not know what ATI is. I have tried old Winex and new Winex, as for drivers, do I need to supply my PCI Nwidia graphics card specs?

No, but you've to install Nvidia official drivers to get 3D acceleration. Drives shipped with most of the current distributions are a generic 2D driver for Nvidia with lack of features as 3D acceleration or TV out. Go into www.nvidia.com and grab the drivers for Linux.

Make a search in this forum about installing nvidia drivers or check Nvidia's README file. If something goes wrong, post it here :).

Also, about Quake 3, there'll be a lost of speed regardless for you using Nvidia drivers or not with WineX. You'd better off running Quake 3 natively for Linux, it's just as easy to install:

to cange the subject were did you get winex and did you pay for it, second check to make sure you have no background task, then a ram upgrade might help or move to an older version of linux, if you have a new one your probly running out your specks just on the core system finally did you configure your driver just in case i beilive the command for ati is "fglrxconfig" check the ati site and make sure you arn't running all the specks on high

You will need the IA32 driver.
