After failing miserably to get some of my old Windows games to run via wine (problems authenticating the original CD) I thought I would try some Linux native ones. Anyone know of a decent pinball game for my system?

That's most likely because Wine can't pass through the CD-copy protection, a common annoyance shipped with nearly all games today. An easy work around for that is using a no-cd crack. You can find those things here:

However, you may be even more successful by using Cedega, a non-free (but really cheap) version of Wine optimized to run DirectX based games:

it's also possible to run a few Windows games natively under Linux by using an installer. Here you can find a few:
