GAIM problem

I have mandrake9.1 and the newest version of gaim. Whenever i try to direct connect to someone it tells me to choose a file before even asking the user to direct connect..then when i send the file they say its just a blank line.

When the user makes a direct connection with me and i try to send the file again my gaim locks up. Anyone know why this happens and how to fix it? Or a possiable better AIM clone that can use direct connection.

try kopete instead, I had problems with gaim in mandrake 10 so I just switched to using kopete

hmm how would i compile this with mandrake 9.1? im a total noob to linux. I heard about a program that can compile GZ automatically? im not sure. I compiled my own firefox.gz but it gave me instructions. Anyone know how to do it for Kopete

1. read the README
2. read INSTALL
3. compile - ./configure, make, make install probably
