Angry GAIM keeps kicking me out of MSN

i just installed all the updates for redhat via the Alert notification tool. Now it seems that GAIM is kicking me out about every 30 seconds or so. Just closes outta no where. Wondering if anyone has experienced this or can suggest a way to fix.

/Jason

If I am not mistaken, hasn't M'soft stopped supporting the AIM protocol? That would mean that gaim wouldn't be supported, either. No?

Cheers--

i would ask, are you trying to do something like change fonts or doing some othe kind of function? i think it's just gaim crashing. everytime i try to do something like click the fontface button to change the font, gaim crashes. since you got tcl/tk installed, have you tried amsn?

Gaim still works with MSN provided you're using a recent version (0.71 is our current version), and you have SSL libraries properly installed. We support either Mozilla NSS or GNUTLS. Check the FAQ for more information.

http://gaim.sourceforge.net/

hope that helps

Why don´t you try AMSN, it's a MSN clone and its latest version now supports MSNP9 protocol.

yep. got all that on my end. it works fine, but like i said, it just crashes on me when i do something like try to click the font face button to change the font. doesn't generate any errors in either the gui or the CLI. i don't know about what the original poster is doing exactly though.

Microsoft has officially "blocked" all 3rd party clients from accessing their network.
If you don't use Windows / and MSN Messenger, you're out of luck.. or so it seems.

Good thing GAIM finds ways around this.

yeah actually i had the same exact problem, I fixed it with the RPM. Uinstall the version that you are using now and download the RPM and it should run just fine.

if you're refering to me, i've got .71 installed by source. rpm is no go for me running rh 7.3. plus my problem is no big deal for me. if you're referring to the topic starter, he/she (?) did install from rpm.

edit: typo on gaim version....

The new mozilla 1.5 SSL libraries, if you are using them, are faulty, so you should run it on 1.4 SLL libraries. That may be your problem.

Gaim FAQ (at h**p://gaim.sourceforge.net/faq.php#q60)

"The MSN plugin won't load, but I have Mozilla NSS!

Some distributions, including Slackware, install Mozilla NSS to a non-standard directory. The fix is simple. Edit /etc/ld.so.conf and add /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4 (or whatever version you're using, but it's usually 1.4) to the file. Then re-run configure and recompile Gaim.

Mozilla 1.5 has a broken .pc file and does not install the necessary .h files, and so will not be detected. "

This is what I mean.

Vancouver is really getting into the rainy season, hehe.

thanks for everyones input

ya, amsn is quite decent. I like Gaim a little better, just cause it's nicer looking and compatible with more protocols. But Amsn will do just fine!. Thanks
