GAIM configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH, newb


i am trying to install gaim and receive the error:
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
when i run ./confugre

a similar thread suggested getting the following packages:

GNU Binutils
autoconfig
automake
cpp
gcc
gcc-c++
gdb
gettext
glib-devel
glib2-devel
gnome-libs-devel
gtk2-devel

problem:
i am a newb and have no clue how to get them for debian and it only gives instructions for suse 9.0 pro using yast2.

any suggestions?

rpmfind now supports .dev files as well. Try there and search for the package names you want. Otherwise, you can always just go to wherever your upgrades come from and search for the packages there.

hi
solve configure problem by installing agian RH 8.0 with all packages
its ok upto to
"make install" command
now when i run
/usr/local/bin/grub-install /dev/hda
i get error there is no file or directory
then i make dir by mkdir /usr/local/bin
but i still not able to install grub 0.93
please tell me how to install it where to install
