Gaim and MSN Messenger 7 Beta??

I'm using Gaim on Slackware 10.0 and it runs fine, except for file transfers are painfully slow (~2kB/s). Could this have anything to do with the recent forced upgrade of MSN Messenger to version 7 beta? I have opened the appropriate ports on my firewall and even tried turning it off completely for a short while but to no avail.

I've never had fast file transfers via MSN. Don't know what it is. Seems to be pretty random from what I hear from others as well.
