FTP Server Software
Ok, I have a personal http file server set up on my Linux box and I have a question. I want to be able to host an ftp service on the same folder so that I can remotely add and remove files. I've got it set up as an http server just because it's quick, it's easy and I'm not looking for any kind of high security, I share the service with my friends so I can send them large files easily. Anyway, I'm just looking for some free ftp software that will allow me to "host" a folder as ftp and not just browse folders on external ftp servers. I've tried gftp and kasablanca with no luck.

Knew "free" would have to be in there... the best things ARE free... we wouldn't recommend anything that wasn't...
check out proftpd and vsftpd. Both are fairly simple to configure and use

Hi
Definetly have a look at vsftpd,it is a great FTP server and is pretty easy to configure.Only one vsftpd.conf file to go through and setup.
With anon logins you can be up and running in 10 minutes

I installed vsftpd the other day but it won't run, how would I go about setting it up? When I try to run it it's just like I never installed it, but I did.

hi
The configuration file for vsftp is found at /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf , read the vsftpd man page and configure it accordingly, you can start up the server using "/etc/init.d/vsftpd start"
Cheers
