ftp server

Is there a bulit in ftp server in Linux like there is with Win2k,i.e. Internet Information Services). If there isn't, what is a good and safe ftp server for linux?

What distro are you running..?? Most come with either wu-ftp or proftpd installed which are the more popular ones.

i am running redhat 7.2

I believe Redhat installs wu-ftpd by default. Try running setup at a command. You'll find a services option to select ftp to start at bootup and to start the ftp services. Try checking out http://www.wu-ftpd.org/ for more info about it.

I wouldnt suggest wuftpd IMHO. it has tonnes of leaks and less options...
go with proftpd. it's much more easier to config too

but that's just an opionion... the wuftpd security issues are facts though

I would have to agree with that one. Though I hear that wu-ftpd is easier to configure, but proftpd isn't really much harder IMHO. But Redhat does come with wu-ftpd as default, but I think proftpd is an option and probably on the Redhat cd's as well to be able to install from.
