FTP Error, Help needed. "Must perform authentication before identifying USER"
 

Hi,
I get the error "Must perform authentication before identifying USER" when trying to lof on to my FTP server.

I am running Madrake 8.1 and I get this error wether trying to connect from a remote machine or the server box itself. A recent post (below) suggested the following for Redhat, but the files appearently are different for Mandrake. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I think that I had the same exact problem as you. Your configuration file is probably fine but in the wrong spot. I had to move mine (also have Redhat 9).

cp /ect/vsftp/vsftp.conf /ect/vsftp.conf

I had wondered why it would not make any of the changes I wanted. Good luck!
