Unhappy FTP and Samba connect broke after installing gcc-3.4.6

After upgrading my compiler and stdc++ I seem to have lost my capability to ftp from my win2k boxes to my linux box (Redhat 9.0).I also can not connect to my Samba shares anymore from the same win2k boxes.

Did upgrading the compiler and stdc++ libs possibly break connectivity. Was this a real bad thing to do?

Smile Found the problem

After reviewing the /var/log/messages file for clues, it appears that another application I had installed was actually handling the pam authentication for my passwords. It was erroring out trying to find the older version of libgcc_s.so.1. Once I uninstalled the application, all worked fine.

Moral: Never forget to peruse the log files!
