Ftp


Hi, im a newbie to Linux and I was wondering if there was an FTP program similar to WS FTP in wind0ze. If there isn't which is the best one to get?

Yes.
If you want a graphical FTP, you can use gFTP.

However, if you want a command line FTP, I suggest ncftp.
ncftp supports all the functionality of the Linux command line.

As Mathieu stated, gFTP is probably the closest program I've seen that resembles WS - FTP in Windows.

You'll have to run me through the installation cause i've only ever install things using apt-get install, im taking it *.tar.gz is a file compression format?...

yea, to uncompress it use "tar -zxvf filename"

If you installed gnome, should already be on your system.

I have KDE.

I have NO idea what im mean to uncompress, when I try to get the DEB's files I get a load of code instead of a file to download :\

Not to worry people, I found out that my default browser allows drag and drop FTP so its easy peasy!
