so it tells me gtk isn't installed, but it kinda is...and its the same version so i'm just scratching my head here..

The gtk+ package contains the GIMP ToolKit (GTK+), a library for
creating graphical user interfaces for the X Window System. GTK+ was
originally written for the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) image
processing program, but is now used by several other programs as
well.
Two things. First, why are you configuring or building as root? Bad idea, you only need to be root to install. Second, do you have a file named gtk-config in /usr/bin because that's what the configure script is looking for? You probably only have the runtime files for gtk installed and you need the development files.
thanks, that did the trick, i had a couple more bumps in the road with gtkglarea but the devel files got the ball rolling at least. thanks for the help
