I used dumpe2fs to locate where the superblocks were on two separate ext3 filesystems. They were the same. So
you could try one of the others, which may be beyond the point of corruption. Don't know, but might be able to recover files after the corruption. You may want to create an image backup of the partition and work on that to prevent further corruption. The fsck program puts orphaned files if finds in lost&found, but uses the inodes instead of the filenames.

Hi, Thank you for your post. Please tell me how I can do an image backup of the partion?

When I get time to look at my PC again I will let you know of progress. The doctors have done a few tests and scans on my wife but have not diagnosed the cause of the pain she is getting on her tummmy. Presntly treating her symptoms.

Hi Jschiwal,

How do I make a image backup of the partition?

I did a backup of my evolution email programe using the file->backup settings. Now when I try to restore settings nothing happens. It does not give an error message either.

Any ideas?
