Frostwire shortcut
 

Just installed FrostWire and I am a little confused. I installed this on a laptop that had Ubuntu on it and it created a link in Applications>Internet>FrostWire. I thought I would install it on a Debian "sarge" machine that I have and it failed to create a link in the same path. I found the shortcut in /usr/bin/frostwire/runFrost.sh but I was curious how I get it into the path of Applications>Internet>FrostWire. I have been reading about symbolic links but I am not sure if this is what I am suppose to create. Also, how do you determine which file is going to launch the application. As you can guess, I have come from a Windows world and I am use to seeing executables, but that is not the case with Debian or any other distro. Will I normally find a shell script that will launch an application when it fails to create a shortcut for me?

Done dpkg -L <packagename> to find where all the files where. Just confused now as how to create the shortcut and is this the norm if an app fails to create one?:study:

Can you be more specific? Where do you want the program, Desktop, Menu? What are you using, GNOME, KDE, Xfce, Fluxbox, etc...

Some things to try:

-Right Click on nothing but the Desktop or Filemanager (Don't click on the file itself)

-Look for Create New -> Link to Application

For a menu:

-Go into the Control Center and look for a menu editor ( Some desktops have such a program in the Utilities or Configuration menus. ) Then just add it manually.

-Fluxbox, Openbox, etc... Have only a text file for the menu. There you need to find that file in ~/home/.xxxx and edit that file.

Thanks whixhkah. I am using Gnome and I was wanting to put the shortcut in the Applications>Internet menu. I had actually clicked on the runFrost.sh file and selected Link, but it was just a shortcut to the file actually. When I drug it to the Desktop and launched it, it still wanted to run it from the terminal window for some reason. You were talking about going into ~/home/.xxx and editing a text file for something like Openbox. Just exactly what would I change in something like that to tell it I waneted to make it a shortcut? Is it a shell script or somemthing and I need to edit it so it runs like an executable?
