From Ubuntu to Mint...
Hello fellows!

I'd like to give a chance to Mint, what's the easiest way to switch from Oneiric Ocelot (Ubuntu 11.10) to Lisa (Mint 12)? Do I have to download files and burn them on CD/DVD before running them, or is there another way(eg using terminal)?

Many thanks!!

In my opinion the easiest way is to backup your files and settings, make a list of your installed program (dpkg --get-selections) and perform a clean install of Linux Mint. The differences are too big to try 'migrating' from one to the other. Even an upgrade to a new release within the Ubuntu realm doesn't go without problems, so the procedure I mention is your best and safest bet I believe.

Kind regards,

Thnks Eric,

I did write dpkg --get-selections into the terminal. However, the list starts in the "p", I don't understand why... The first one is
powermanga-data install

and the last is

zlib1g install

Is that not weird?

Most likely the list is to long to show in your terminal. Redirect it to a file:

dpkg --get-selections > ~/myselections.txt
will save the complete list in the file myselections.txt in your home directory.
