Fresh MEPIS install boot issues

Hey all!

MEPIS forum moving slow so I'll try here. I think it's only a grub issue.

I have an adaptec 2940-AU SCSI card, and Seagate 18gb drive which I have just installed MEPIS linux on. In order to boot the live CD, I had to use the failsafe boot option which disabled the DMA because I was getting a cloop error.

The install went fine. When I boot, I get the grub menu, then I get a kernel panic

Code:
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
I have had many other distros installed with NO problems. This is my first time installing GRUB on this machine. Had no problems with same distro, same drive different controller in another computer.

I think I need to disable the DMA, but am unsure how. I could be totally wrong.

Thanks for the help!

Advice/Suggestion: Don't bump 0 reply threads -- according to LQ Rules: " If your thread does not receive any responses, it will automatically be bumped twice." So bumping is counter productive because it takes your thread out of the 0 reply list.

Now to your problem.

I think maybe "nodma" added to the kernel parameters in your /boot/grub/menu.lst might be what you're asking for.

However I suggest you also look here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...parameters+dma

Do you think I could avoid these peoblems by installing grub and /boot on an IDE drive while using my SCSI drive for all my data?
